The Golf Equipment Marketing Syndrome All Rights Reserved Our Answer is: "Wouldn't you Prefer having a Putter that works for You, Rather than a Putter that you saw on Television"? Mr. Jones had many attributes and successes one of which was golf, I will digress with germane data just to anchor my point of contention. Most people do not know that he was an Amateur Golfer, he also earned the following; not in chronological order, a B.A. From Harvard College in English Literature, Studied Law at Emory University and passed the Georgia bar examine hence giving him the ability to practice Law. The last on my list, but foremost in enhancing his natural abilities to be an Exceptional Golfer was a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1922. Ok what does that mean?... He was inculcated in Physics, and judging by the way he played Golf, he was no slouch in Math Class.  Calamity Jane Putter Simply defined: Physics has given all of us that play Golf today an inherent advantage, but not a Physical Advantage. Let me elucidate with a straightforward observation, I am sure you can all provide one of your own. Every Casino has a critical Mathematical Advantage based in relative Physics in every Game they offer commonly referred to as the Odds; they advertise it and tout you with the relevance. It is no Secret, that the Longer you play at a Casino the more you will lose. Now if the Casino stacked the deck against you, so you would only receive unusable cards that is a Physical Advantage. You are not losing because of the Odds; you cannot Win because it is Physically Impossible to do so. Back to Golf and I am not going to address the socioeconomic, gender,race, Etc issues, in this harangue just the relevance of Science. Therefore, if we simplistically analyze Bobby Jones and his golf game, in tandem with his Engineering prowess and since Golf was basically in the dark ages as far as equipment advancements, we would have to conclude that he was not only a gifted athlete but possessed a unique acumen in Physics. Hence, that could definitely equate to why no one has ever replicated or came close to his putting record utilizing exact replicas of his Calamity Jane Putter. I relish viewing Rocco, and this is not to belittle this great athlete, just to address marketing. I watched in dismay as Rocco Mediate shot lead evaporated after his last day starting shot advantage in the 2008 US open only to lose to Tiger Woods. It was clearly Rocco's to lose, especially when you start shots ahead of the Pack. I remember him missing 3 Birdie opportunities on 15, 17, & 18. If he had made just one of them, Golf history would be written differently. The very next day after Rocco was defeated, the manufacture of his Saber tooth Putter, displayed a significant header banner on their web site. The Advertisement stated the phrase"Way to go Rocco" I pondered for a moment why would they ridicule this gentleman's misfortunes he was utilizing their obviously not so wonderful product, I then reminded myself about Marketing and their ability to get their newest Putter design on Television. At that moment, my analytical mind was racing, I knew by reading numerous golfing periodicals that the average Pro Golfer spent an average of 360 hours of practice putting during the 6 months or so Professional season. Even the hardest core golfing enthusiast "non professional" with other duties adding time constraints on their life agenda could not afford to partake in such a rigorous Putting routine, so my logical conclusion took this tangent, and yours again may be different. Was Odyssey's stating that the best you can do as a Professional with a Saber tooth Putter was Second Place in a life changing Tournament, or were they indicating to a non-professional if you purchase one, you can relieve yourself of the pressure of Winning and be happy with coming in Second? Either way they sold a ton of them, and profits not Rocco's anguish was their driving factor. Enough Said!!! Now it is palpably apparent to anyone involved with the modern golf game, that Materials, Science and Engineering has elevated all Golfers to new heights within parameters established by the USGA. No longer are there only a few winners per season, given today's technology it is totally possible that a different participant can win every week. Persimmon Wood Club Science: Customized fitting is an enormous factor to performance, swing booths that ascertain data are helpful, but only if tailored to your individual physical abilities. I will have to interject as in Rocco's case the fitting process has to revolve around sound Physics not Designer inspired looks. A wonderfully engineered running shoe would not work well for you if it were too large or too small for your foot; on the other hand, a poorly engineered sneaker (no inner foot support) will not assist you no matter how well it fits. Ok, so can we agree; It is the well-engineered Arrow as well as the Proficient Archer that will hit their targets consistently and with notable results. Engineers were approached years ago by Yar Golf, and by anyone standards Yar Golf is a Visionary Company. As the Projects Head Engineer since I was not a golfer,I was not influenced by any outside predilections; our task was their desires of having the best Materials, Science and Engineering that could be garnered. So let us presume that even a simple electronic medication dispenser that alerts you to dosage time would be Technology and trying to remember to take your meds throughout the day would entail a Technique. Therefore, if we constructed our Putter in the antediluvian environ of yester year, we too would be touting a prescribed methodology as how to employ it, we would be Engineering a Technique not a Product. With the GX1 Putter, your thought process starts with basically forgetting what you have already learned, and just do what comes natural for you. Yes... Just imagine how much additional confidence you will have approaching the Green without all the pressure of remembering a passel of procedures. The science associated with that aspect is Ergogenics. Ergogenic by definition; in compendium format is enhancing physical performance by eliminating Fatigue, and stress is a Major Ingredient in fatiguing an athlete. Scientist and Engineers do not invent How to Books, they create significantly beneficial appliances by means of Materials, Science and Engineering.
